Thanks for all of your feedback over the last couple weeks. In our previous post, we talked about a number of issues with the Meet Your Match update and what we were doing to address them. Here’s a quick recap on what has happened since then:. Matchmaking: We have been working hard to improve the matchmaking system, greatly reducing queue times and eliminating most causes of errors when attempting to play. On average, queue times are now below ninety seconds for most players. There are still some issues with lower population regions and game modes that we are looking into. We have identified and corrected several issues where players weren’t being sent to fill empty slots for in-progress matches. There should be far fewer matches where this happens, and we will continue making improvements here. Casual Mode: Players are now able to specify the maps they would like play on when using matchmaking. However, it is sometimes the case that players joining in-progress matches aka “late join” end up on maps they did not select.

Portal 2 for PlayStation 3 is the first title to support Steam on a console. Specifically, that means it offers cross-platform matchmaking, gameplay, friends, chat, and achievements, all powered by Steam. Steam on the PS3 also saves co-op game progress and single player saved games to the Steam Cloud, enabling players to pick up where they left off on any PlayStation 3.
The news was rolled out as part of a DOTA 2 update blog post. Regarding the ban wave, Valve notes that several different groups of various bad actors will now be banned, including players with low behavior scores and players who are detected buying and selling Steam accounts. Anyone using exploits or cheats will also be banned. The blog post from Valve is currently offline, but a copy is available from Google Cache. Smurf accounts — accounts created by the same player to deceptively present themselves as less experienced than they actually are — are also being cracked down on.
First, Valve has closed loopholes that allowed players to dodge the phone number verification system. Players will not be allowed to queue for ranked matches until and unless they attach a unique number. Second, access to ranked matches will now require at least hours of playtime in DOTA 2. This should help cut down on the smurfing problem.
If players attempt to game the system but demonstrate a level of skill that indicates they clearly belong in a different group, the game will adjust their matchmaking rating MMR more quickly, to line them up against the right players. Because access to ranked is now gated by time played, Valve will also use account history to determine where you should be placed, and hopes these changes will result in players hitting their appropriate rankings more quickly.
DOTA 2 players have not been particularly sympathetic to players getting banned for excessively low community scores or account shenanigans.
Valve unveils massive matchmaking changes for Dota 2
A tweet from the official CSGO Twitter account and an accompanying blog post announced that Valve will now restrict third-party software from interacting with the game in an effort to better combat cheating. Developers say that while users can disable the option, players who choose not to block the unnamed programs will have their trust factor lowered. No one knows exactly how Valve calculates a player’s trust factor, but the developer has revealed that it is based on a combination of account age, reports against users, and playtime.
An experienced player who creates a new Steam account to play with their lower-ranked friends, for example, will likely have a low trust factor.

Everyone that keeps on playing will eventually start the grind to get the highest rank possible, maybe even get that Global Elite status.
